Wall Street urges General Motors and Ford to spend on Tesla’s ‘arms race’
Investors are urging plans by General Motors and Ford to spend tens of billions of dollars on electric vehicles, even as automakers tap into growing revenues from cars and trucks with traditional engines.
GM will announce second-quarter earnings on Wednesday after saying in June that its results for the first half of the year would be “significantly better” than previously forecast, despite a semiconductor shortage that has hit the industry.
Last week, Ford surprised investors when it reported a profit of $ 561 million in the second quarter due to growing demand for trucks and sports utility vehicles.
