Alibaba’s growth slows as China pushes tech regulation

China’s e-commerce group Alibaba reported slow growth in the second quarter and missed analysts’ expectations as its core online sales business slumped in the face of competition from Pinduoduo and JD.com. did.

​

Alibaba’s poor performance is due to the tightening of the regulatory environment for Chinese tech companies and the already hitting stocks by a government-led “correction” campaign targeting its sister company Ant Group.

​
