Deutsche Bank has dropped a cost-saving target that is central to CEO Christian Sewing’s attempt to revive the bank’s fortune, telling shareholders that the transformation is now “significantly advanced” .
The decision to scrap its 2022 austerity target comes shortly after Germany’s largest bank withdrew from a target of cutting 18,000 jobs, an ambition first set out two years ago.
The move came as Deutsche delivered better-than-expected results in the second quarter. The net profit for the period was € 692 million, which comfortably exceeded analysts’ expectations of € 372 million.
